A Contemporary Reinvention: Design for the Modern Family

Where Heritage Meets Modern Living

Nestled within a charming Victorian cottage, this kitchen by KIND Kitchens tells a story of transformation, from dated and disconnected to timeless and thoughtfully resolved. Once characterised by lime-coloured cabinetry and an awkward L-shaped layout, the space lacked flow, cohesion, and efficient use of its generous ceiling height.

What it needed was not only a fresh aesthetic but also a reimagined sense of purpose and function.

A kitchen that could adapt seamlessly to the rhythm of modern family life.

The Heart of the Modern Family Home

The clients envisioned a serene and highly functional kitchen that balanced style with practicality. Their brief called for a space that flowed effortlessly between cooking, dining, and family activities.

To achieve this concept, KIND designers worked on:

  • Transforming the layout into a galley-style kitchen with a central island, maximising workflow and spatial efficiency.
  • The central large island would serve as both a social hub and a practical work zone, anchoring the design and inviting connection
  • A pocket-door appliance bench that conceals the coffee machine and toaster, creating a discreet morning station.
  • Sleek finger-pull handles maintain a minimalist aesthetic.
  • Integrated pull-out bin and inner pantry drawers optimise everyday functionality.
  • A dedicated study area provides a clever family-focused touch, complemented by LED task lighting that illuminates key workspaces.
  • The use of Polytec Boston Oak Woodmatt cabinetry brings warmth, texture, and balance to the contemporary palette

Caesarstone Porcelain: The Stone That Defines the Space

At the heart of the design lies the true hero of the space — the Caesarstone Porcelain in Sleet.

Chosen for its durability and timeless beauty, Sleet offers a perfect balance of everyday practicality and refined design. Resistant to heat, stains, and daily wear, while its soft, natural veining adds a subtle sophistication to the space.

Serving as both a statement and a unifying element, the porcelain surface extends seamlessly across the island, forming two waterfall edges that showcase its refined beauty of stunning warm veins and durability. The same stone continues as a splashback and elevated shelf feature over the cooktop, thoughtfully framing the canopy rangehood between existing skylights, and the rangehood to the cooktop. This composition not only enhances depth and visual interest but also anchors the kitchen with a sense of elegance and permanence

Beauty Backed by Functionality

A kitchen that could adapt seamlessly to the rhythm of modern family life.

The primary goal of this project was to deliver a kitchen that was functional, visually striking, and maximised storage efficiency.

Through a carefully reworked layout, refined material selections, and standout design details such as the porcelain shelf and waterfall-edged island, the space achieves a perfect balance between beauty and purpose. Custom joinery that was meticulously crafted to elevate usability, while Caesarstone chosen for its sophistication, resilience, and timeless appeal.
